In crypto, reaching consensus refers to the validation of the block. Proof-of-work is one kind of consensus protocol where miners contribute computing power to solve a cryptographic puzzle. Once this puzzle is solved, it is published to the network, where other miners can then verify if the solution is indeed accurate. Proof of stake is another method of verification to arrive at consensus. In this system, validators are able to stake their coins to take part in a reward share as a means to arrive at consensus.
